Play Again: An Immersive Journey Through the History of Video Games
A unique exhibition tracing the history of video games through the iconic consoles that have left their mark on several generations.
In November 2025, We are Geekin’ partnered with the Institut Français de Maurice (IFM) to curate a landmark exhibition for Novembre Numérique: “Play Again.” Designed as a cultural odyssey, this exhibition transformed the gallery space into a time machine, retracing over 50 years of video game history.
From Pixels to Art: A Scenographic Experience
The exhibition was structured to guide visitors through the evolution of the medium, appealing to both nostalgic gamers and curious newcomers.
-
The Museum of Consoles: A physical timeline featuring iconic hardware, from the wood-grain finish of the Atari 2600 to the sleek design of the PlayStation 5. Visitors could admire rare collectibles, cartridges, and vintage magazines that defined the gaming culture of the 80s and 90s.
-
The Arcade Corner: A tribute to the golden age of coin-ops, featuring playable arcade cabinets (Pac-Man, Street Fighter II) that brought the authentic “noisy” atmosphere of the arcade era to the quiet gallery.
-
Visual Arts & Marketing: We highlighted the artistic side of gaming through a Virtual Photography Gallery—showcasing breathtaking in-game screenshots—and a collection of cult advertising posters that shaped the industry’s identity.
Putting the Indian Ocean on the Map
A key highlight of Play Again was its focus on the local ecosystem. While we celebrated global giants like Nintendo and Sega, we dedicated a specific section to the Indian Ocean video game industry.
We showcased the achievements of regional talents, including:
-
Mauritius: Highlighting the world-class work of Steamroller Animation on AAA titles and the mobile gaming success of Play Touch.
-
Reunion Island & Madagascar: Featuring award-winning studios like Blue Ramen and Lomay.
This section proved that the Indian Ocean is not just a consumer of video games, but an active creator in the global market.
A Cultural Success
“Play Again” was more than just a display of technology; it was a space for intergenerational dialogue. Parents introduced their children to the games of their youth, while younger players demonstrated the complexity of modern gaming.
