Star Wars in Mauritius: An Intergalactic Musical Experience

A unique exhibition tracing the history of video games through the iconic consoles that have left their mark on several generations.

The Force was undeniably strong in Rose Hill this past May 3rd! We are Geekin’, in a stellar collaboration with the Institut Français de Maurice (IFM), transformed the venue into a galaxy far, far away to celebrate the annual Star Wars anniversary.

From hardcore Jedi masters to casual Padawans, over 200 attendees gathered for an evening that blended pop culture knowledge with a high-end immersive musical performance. Missed the hyperdrive jump? Here is a recap of this unique night.

A Challenge for the Ultimate Fans

The festivities kicked off with a high-stakes Star Wars General Knowledge Quiz. This wasn’t just about naming the Skywalkers; the questions tested fans on the entire saga, spanning the original movies, the latest live-action series, and the animated universe.

Competition was fierce, but three victors emerged from the crowd. We were proud to reward their knowledge with prizes generously provided by our local sponsors: 101-Multimedia, Halftone, Ridz Apparel, and La Fabrik (IFM).

An Immersive Audio-Visual Symphony

The highlight of the evening was, without a doubt, the live musical experience. The stage was taken over by local talents Gary Mach and Sami Lee, who delivered an electrifying performance that resonated through the IFM amphitheater.

But this was more than just a concert—it was a visual journey. As the music played, the giant screen came alive with:

  • Exclusive 3D Animations: Created specifically for the event by the talented artist Guimero (Guillaume Clarisse).

  • Iconic Saga Moments: Carefully curated video clips from the Star Wars universe that synced perfectly with the live audio.

The blend of live electronic/instrumental performance with Guimero’s visuals created an atmosphere that suspended time and space.

A Full House and “Intergalactic” Feedback

The numbers speak for themselves: with 190 tickets officially sold and a total attendance of over 200 people (including the dedicated We are Geekin’ volunteers and IFM staff), the event was a resounding success.

Post-show interviews with the audience revealed just how impactful the night was. The feedback was unanimous, with attendees describing the vibe as “extraordinary,” “unique,” and truly “intergalactic.”

The most common request? “We need to do this again!”

Both the audience and the performing artists expressed immense satisfaction, proving that the appetite for high-quality geek culture events in Mauritius is bigger than ever.
